2021 Season Finale

Today was our last game of the season, the annual challenge match between our Watford Vets League teams. For the first time we had 3 teams with the new Green team joining battle with the Red and Blue teams. Although a bit cool with sporadic rain we managed to complete all 18 ends on all 6 rinks before having a fish and chip supper, supplied by Warners End Fish Shop at Stoneycroft. A big shout out to them as the food was on time and was hot and tasty.
The result turned out to reflect the position of the 3 teams in the League with a win for the Blue team from Division 1 with the Red team from Division 2 as runners up and the Green team from Division 4 in 3rd place.
Time to lock up the green and for the ground staff to start preparations for 2022. Some members will be playing indoors at Herts or Woodside and others on the outdoor all weather facilities at Ashley Green or Bovingdon.
Social events are held monthly throughout the winter season as examples; quizzes, murder mystery, and the Christmas Party in December – message here if you are interested. The regular Thursday Morning Meet and Greet social gatherings are held in the clubhouse on Thursdays at 10.30am . Come along for a cup of tea or coffee and a different activity every week.
To all members: enjoy the winter and hope to see you bowling indoors or outdoors, or at a social event.

Chelsea Pensioners visit HHBC

Hemel Hempstead Bowls Club welcomed the ‘Chelsea Pensioners’ as part of the club’s centenary celebrations.

The club celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, most of the celebratory matches were postponed until 2021.

The Chelsea Pensioners arrived at Hemel Hempstead Bowls Club on Wednesday, September 8, and when they disembarked from their coach they marched into the club grounds, dressed in their ‘scarlets’ and accompanied by their bagpipe player.

After some photographs, both teams enjoyed a friendly game of bowls, followed by a celebratory meal and a sing-song accompanied by the bagpipes.

There are plans for a return match next year.
